Just thought I'd post our website on the blog. www.puddlepics.com It should be getting better and faster soon. I have about 120 more weekends to add going back to '03.
Good luck to the Hall/Nester Gambling Contingency in Tahoe this weekend.

Hall+beer helmet+double black diamond=priceless
I've wanted to see if videos work on the blog so here it goes. I'm going to attempt to attach a video that was taken with my point-and-shoot, from our zodiac, a mile or so offshore Mendocino. Me, amanda and tooba were traveling south with a group of 200+ Risso's dolphin's. (a 1/4 mile long by 300 yrd sized group) http://www.acsonline.org/factpack/RissosDolphin.htm We thought they were whales at first......neither of us (Tooba included...LOL) had ever seen such large dolphins. We kept a 50 yrd gap from the pod on the same heading until they started to get curious and one by one would come over to visit us until we had a dozen or so that encircled us and cruised along with us. (the quiet 4 stroke honda was a big help to not spook them) An alpha member of the group (a few feet longer than the boat) kept cruising underneath us at our pace. The eye contact and whole experience was amazing! Since we sit at almost water level in our tiny zodiac we were within an arms length from them at times....INTENSE! We traveled together for about 4 miles before an alpha came over, glared at us and swooshed his tail at us......meaning, we had fun, were curious and excited for a while, and now we're over it......which we happily complied by cruising slowly ahead and away from the pod. So here's a photo of one we took.
It has a nasty wound towards it's tail fin.....also notice the markings on them. I believe they are scars from battles with Giant Humboldt Squid, their main food source. They also LOVE to get airborne. We had one that jumped 14 times in a row near the boat!
*notice I nervously throttle up a little when the first dolphin decides to make contact.....keep your eye on the bottom, left corner of the video. You'll see the first small dolphin heading underneath us....and then a huge one came in below us......which gets a good reaction from everyone in the boat.
....................got up and wandered....
much love,
brett & amanda wiskur
